susan jennings

dream (four times)

Silence
Chosen by weakness;
insidious untruths
choke blood from dreams
like flat leeches I resign to
like the electronic eye which
accuses:
"treason."

By weakness
I choose to forget;
avoiding the
meltdown
avoiding truth.
And so it escapes
all that I create.

A dog's fear
of release to the unknown
clamps tight my tongue,
Secures my breath
with a
fisherman's net,
And his anchor sinks heavy
in my belly.

An obscene jungle
of new insects and
yellow-eyed lizards
Fills my soul with alien scents
And I awaken at night
gagging on
the stench.
